At the at the tapestry and carpet weaving workshop of Applied Arts House Gödöllő we follow the old traditional, secessionist methods. The founder of the workshop, Flóra Remsey was a Ferenczy Noémi-awarded tapestry artist who was teaching at the workshop until the end of her life, 2014.
Once Flóra Remsey said :
‘There is the house on the street of the old secessionist art colony’s where the newly formed Gödöllő Applied Art House could move in which was established by 1998 autumn. To the street where Sándor Nagy, Aladár Körösfői-Kriesch, Jenő Remsey used to live, where Aladár Körösfői-Kriesch established a weaving school in 1904. This school created ‘Gödöllő carpet’ which brought european reputation to the colonization. Later on the weaving school became the workshop for the University of Applied Art which used to be called College of Applied Art back in the days. From this heritage the workshop and its environment could develop. The creative work, the program of the exhibitions and the art education are going together at this place. This unique milieu defines all the activities we have in here. All of our old furniture, the luxuriant green vegetation, the rare variant ceramics, the paintings on the wall, also our hand made, long process carpets, we have in here gives you that calm, peaceful atmosphere. We have a personalized educational system, we believe there is no other method to teach art. The community which has a common interest -even if the participants are changing- its a constant value by connecting people, this is one of the course’s outstanding qualities.’
The workshop’s mindset is still the same which was given by the ancestors. The educational system is leading us to get familiar and learn the different carpet weaving techniques and the traditional European tapestry weaving techniques.
