Contemporary pattern and structure collections, inspired by the works of the secessionist G\u00f6d\u00f6ll\u0151 art colony<\/p>\n

\u201eAt such times when preparations were underway for the ball of the colony with the forest full of elderflower and linden, streets were bursting with the fragrance of rose and jasmine. Ilka\u2019s garden was however second to none. This dryad-like woman collected all sorts of flowers around her. Irises and Aquilegias had their respective well-defined sections in her garden. Spring seasons saw Violets, Primulas and Daffodils blossom under her hands \u2013 just like Lillies, Delphiniums and Campanulas. Honeysuckle embraced the window of the studio and the bower on the hill was fully entangled with the purple crosses of Clematis.\u201d \u00c1gnes Remsey<\/em><\/p>\n

The once-flourishing garden cultus in the life of the secessionist G\u00f6d\u00f6ll\u0151 art colony is evoked by the exhibition, presenting contemporary textile collections built on plant and flower motifs, inspired by the works of the artists of the art colony. Among our main goals are to continue with the textile arts of a significant tradition in the activities of the G\u00f6d\u00f6ll\u0151 art colony as well as to help contemporary reflections blossom. Artists invited to the exhibition are present or past art students in the textile design and weaving workshop of the G\u00f6d\u00f6ll\u0151 Applied Arts House who currently attend either Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design or Budapest Metropolitan University. A 4 month-long mentor program preceded the exhibition, during which time the 7 gifted young textile design students engaged in technical consultations. The program aided those mentored in their professional development through the passing on of both design and practical experiences. These young textile design students were to pick a painting or a carpet as an inspiration upon which to build their design concept. The aspiration was to design collections upon due interpretation of the pieces of work; collections which may not simply take over characteristic traits and constitutional visual elements of the piece but would also paint a picture of the design attitude and character of the artists. These contemporary reflections are to commemorate the 120th anniversary of establishing the secessionist art colony in G\u00f6d\u00f6ll\u0151.<\/p>\n
